Learner Journey vs Kahoot!
Kahoot! is the live quiz game everyone has played: a host runs it, participants join on their phones, and the room competes. Its business edition, Kahoot! 360 Pro, adds professional presentations, polls, word clouds, AI generation and — on higher plans — self-paced courses, certificates and learning paths, priced per presenter licence. Learner Journey is a learning platform where quizzes are one part of a course, and can be turned into single-player arcade games with scores and a leaderboard. One is built for the room; the other for the record.

A game for the room versus a game in the course
Kahoot!'s genius is the live session: a presenter hosts, everyone joins with a PIN, and a quiz becomes a competition with music, a countdown and a podium. Kahoot! 360 Pro packages that for work — Start (£15 a month, up to 50 participants), Standard (£19, 200 participants, word clouds, live Q&A, reporting), Plus (£37, 1,000 participants, NPS and surveys, training, courses and certificates, full speaker toolkit and AI suite), Max (£52, 2,000 participants, individual learning paths, custom branding) and Ultra (£55 introductory, 5,000 participants, commercial rights for external events) — all per licence, billed annually, with a free basic tier for signing up. Self-paced "kahoots", Stories for microlearning and Missions arrive on Plus and above.
Learner Journey has no live host mode: nobody puts a PIN on a screen. Instead, any quiz or assessment can be turned into one of six arcade games — Match and Memory, Runner, Knowledge Defence, Escape, Snake and more — that learners play on their own inside the course, with scores, play counts and a platform leaderboard ranked by certificates earned. Around that sits everything Kahoot! is not: AI-drafted courses, learning paths with due dates and a compliance report, assessments with pass marks, certificates that verify from a public link, events with registration and attendance, an AI tutor. It is the wrong tool for energising a meeting and the right one for making the revision stick afterwards.

When Kahoot! is the better choice
You run live sessions — team meetings, workshops, classroom lessons, conference energisers — and want the room competing in real time on their phones. You need polls, word clouds and live Q&A alongside a presentation. Participants are counted in the hundreds or thousands and only the presenter needs a licence. The quiz is the event; nothing has to be recorded against a learner afterwards.
When Learner Journey is the better choice
The quiz is part of a course, and you need what surrounds it: AI-drafted content, learning paths with due dates, a compliance report, assessments with pass marks and certificates that verify. You want learners to revise on their own with a game at the end of each module rather than in a scheduled session. Your programme includes events with registration and attendance certificates, or an AI tutor. You want the whole thing free to start rather than a per-presenter licence.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I host a live quiz on Learner Journey?
- No. Games are played by each learner on their own, inside the course, with scores recorded. Many organisations use Kahoot! in the room and Learner Journey for the course, the follow-up game and the certificate.
- What games does Learner Journey have?
- Six arcade formats generated from any quiz or assessment — Match and Memory, Runner Answer Gates, Knowledge Defence, Escape, Snake and more — embedded as a block in a course page, with scores, play counts and a platform leaderboard ranked by certificates earned.
- Can I import my kahoots?
- No. Recreate the questions in a quiz, or generate a quiz with AI from the same source material, then turn it into a game.
- What does Learner Journey not do?
- It does not import or play third-party SCORM packages (it exports them), has no xAPI/LRS, offers email/password and Google sign-in only (no SAML or Microsoft SSO yet), supports one ticket price per event, and has no direct CRM or membership-database integration. If any of those is essential, say so on a demo and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
