For schools
Teacher CPD tracking that survives the inspection
INSET days, safeguarding updates, subject knowledge sessions, ECT support — a school's CPD is spread across a year and a dozen formats. Learner Journey gives each session a registration list, records who was there, attaches the follow-up learning and keeps the evidence per teacher.
No credit card required. Free plan available.
- Free for a school to start
- Staff register in one click; visiting trainers as guests
- Attendance certificates issued at check-in
- Per-path completion report, exportable to CSV
The CPD file nobody wants to own
Ask a school where its CPD record is and you will hear about a shared drive, a spreadsheet the deputy head keeps, and certificates that live in individual inboxes. It works until an inspector asks which staff have completed the latest safeguarding training, or a teacher moves schools and needs their record.
The training itself is fine. What is missing is a system that records participation as it happens and can answer the question later.
Every session leaves a record
In Learner Journey every CPD session is an event. Staff see it on the school's calendar, register in a click, and are checked in on the day. That check-in is the attendance record, and it can issue an attendance certificate to everyone present. If there is follow-up — the updated Keeping Children Safe in Education reading, a short quiz on the new behaviour policy — that is a learning path assigned to the same people with a due date.
Teachers see their own record on their progress page: sessions attended, paths completed, certificates earned. Leaders see the compliance report per topic: who has completed, who is overdue and who is due a refresher. Both views are generated from the same underlying data, so they agree.
What you get
INSET and twilight sessions as events
Publish sessions with time, location or meeting link, capacity and a description. Internal-only events are visible just to workspace members, so a staff-only session never appears publicly.
Check-in as the attendance register
Mark staff present from the attendee list. Attendance is stored against the event, and certificates of attendance can be issued automatically.
Statutory training with due dates
Assign safeguarding, Prevent, GDPR or first-aid refreshers as mandatory learning paths with a due date. The report flags anyone overdue or gone stale.
Subject and pedagogy CPD
Build learning paths from pages, videos and slides — or generate a first draft with AI from your existing policy or scheme of work — and let teachers work through them at their own pace.
A certificate teachers can take with them
Each certificate is a PDF with a public verification link, so a teacher moving schools can evidence their CPD without asking you to dig out a file.
Trust-wide or per school
A single-school workspace, or one workspace per school under a multi-academy trust with trust-wide events open to every school.
Built from Learner Journey modules
Each part of this solution is a standard module of the platform. Read about any of them in detail.
A safeguarding update, tracked end to end
- 1
Run the session as an event
Publish a safeguarding update, an INSET day or a webinar as an event. Staff register in a click; external attendees register as guests without an account.
- 2
Record attendance at the door
Check people in from the attendee list. Attendance is stored against the event, and an attendance certificate can be issued automatically to everyone who was there.
- 3
Set the follow-up learning
Assign a learning path — reading, a short video, a reflective task — to the people who attended, with a due date and a mandatory flag.
- 4
Assess understanding
Close the path with a quiz or an outcome-based assessment so completion means something more than having scrolled to the end.
- 5
Issue the certificate
A certificate is generated on completion as a PDF with a public verification link, so a third party can check it without contacting you.
- 6
See it in the record
The completion appears on the learner's progress page and in the compliance report for that path — completed, overdue or gone stale — ready to export as CSV.
Who it is for
Headteachers and deputies
One place to answer "who has done the training?" — for the whole staff body.
CPD leads
Plan the year's sessions as events, attach the follow-up, and stop chasing sign-in sheets.
Trust central teams
Run trust-wide CPD across schools and see completion per school.
Teachers and support staff
A personal record of sessions and certificates you own and can take to your next school.
Why it works
- Inspection-ready evidence
- Attendance, completion and certificates recorded as they happen, exportable in a click.
- Less admin for the CPD lead
- Registration, check-in and reminders replace the paper sign-in sheet and the chasing email.
- A record that belongs to the teacher
- Certificates verify themselves, so staff evidence their own development.

Frequently asked questions
- Can we record CPD hours per teacher?
- Learner Journey records what happened — attendance at each event, completion of each path, each certificate — rather than a running total of hours. State the duration on the event and on the certificate, then export attendance and completion to CSV if you need a total.
- Do supply staff or visiting trainers need accounts?
- No. Public events accept guest registrations with a name and email. Guests can be checked in and issued an attendance certificate. Internal-only events are limited to workspace members.
- How do we handle annual safeguarding refreshers?
- Assign the refresher as a mandatory learning path with a due date. The compliance report shows who is overdue, and the stale flag surfaces anyone whose training has aged past a window you set. Reminders are sent from the report by a leader and logged.
- Can teachers see their own record?
- Yes. Each teacher's progress page lists their learning paths, quizzes, assessments and certificates, and every certificate has a shareable verification link.
- Does it work for a multi-academy trust?
- Yes. Each school can have its own workspace with its own branding, and the trust can run events open to all schools. See the dedicated page on CPD for multi-academy trusts.
