Learner Journey vs Coursebox
Coursebox and Learner Journey are the closest pair on this site: both generate courses with AI, both have an AI tutor, both have a free plan priced in pounds, and both put an LMS around the courses. The differences are in what surrounds the course — Coursebox leans towards authoring output (SCORM, LTI, AI video avatars) and Learner Journey towards the programme (events, bookings, coaching practice, verifiable certificates).

Same starting point, different directions
Coursebox starts from the course generator and builds outward: AI page credits, AI images, AI video avatars and voice minutes are the currency, and the plans are sized by how much of each you get per year. The LMS arrives on the Pro + LMS plan — learner groups, pathways, gamification, a resource library, a calendar and your own domain — and Enterprise adds SSO, API and multiple portals under a signed multi-year agreement. Its export story is strong: PDF, HTML, SCORM, self-hosted SCORM and LTI 1.3, plus SCORM import on Pro + LMS.
Learner Journey starts from the learning platform and adds the generator: the free plan already includes a workspace, AI course generation, learning paths, assessments, certificates with public verification, and events with registration, tickets or invoices, check-in and attendance certificates. What it lacks is Coursebox's authoring-tool side — no SCORM import, no LTI, no AI video avatars — and its AI credits are counted as one pool rather than five separate allowances.

When Coursebox is the better choice
You are an authoring team whose output goes into someone else's LMS — you need SCORM import and export, self-hosted packages and LTI, and the Coursebox LMS is optional. You want AI video avatars and voice narration inside the course. You want points, badges and a leaderboard. You are an enterprise that needs SSO, an API into HR systems, multiple portals and a signed agreement with an SLA and security review.
When Learner Journey is the better choice
Your programme includes live sessions — CPD events, workshops, member evenings — and you want registration, tickets or invoices, check-in and attendance certificates on the same learner record as the courses. You want certificates a third party can verify from a public link, on the free plan. You run bookings or coaching practice, or publish podcasts and video to a public learning site. You have several colleagues who need to build and manage content and would rather not pay per admin seat. You want one AI credit pool rather than five separate allowances to watch.

- Certificates and PDF/HTML/SCORM export are listed from Creator; self-hosted SCORM, LTI, SCORM import, your own domain, learner groups, learning pathways, gamification, a resource library and calendar from Pro + LMS; SSO (a paid add-on), API, multiple portals and an SLA on Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions
- Both generate courses with AI — what is the practical difference?
- Coursebox generates course pages, images, video avatars and voice from separate credit allowances. Learner Journey generates courses, quizzes, assessments, slides and podcast episodes from one monthly pool, and its AI tutor answers learners from everything in the workspace with citations, not just the course they are in. Neither has a video avatar in common: Coursebox does, Learner Journey does not.
- Can I move Coursebox courses to Learner Journey?
- Not as SCORM — Learner Journey does not import SCORM packages. Export the course as PDF or HTML, bring the source material into a workspace and regenerate, then edit.
- Is there a watermark on the free plan?
- Learner Journey's free plan does not stamp your courses with a watermark. Custom branding and your own domain are paid features; the Learner Journey name appears on the platform itself.
- How does pricing compare?
- Both are priced in pounds with a free plan. At the time of writing Coursebox's paid plans are £21, £64 and £192 per month on annual billing, plus £83 per month for each extra admin; Learner Journey's are £10 and £50 per month. Compare what each plan actually includes — Coursebox's LMS features arrive at £192, Learner Journey's are on every plan.
- What does Learner Journey not do?
- It does not import or play third-party SCORM packages (it exports them), has no xAPI/LRS, offers email/password and Google sign-in only (no SAML or Microsoft SSO yet), supports one ticket price per event, and has no direct CRM or membership-database integration. If any of those is essential, say so on a demo and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
