Learner Journey vs Circle
Circle is a community platform: spaces, discussions, chat, live streams and rooms, events, paid memberships and gamification, with courses as one of the things a space can hold and an AI layer for content and automation. Learner Journey is a learning platform with a community inside it. If your members come for each other, Circle is built for that; if they come to complete something and prove it, read on.

Community with courses versus learning with community
Circle's centre is the space: a discussion, a chat, an event calendar, a course, each with members, notifications and a feed. Around that it has the machinery of a paid community — memberships and payments with a transaction fee that falls as the plan rises, live streams with attendee and hour limits, a website builder, workflows and automations, an optional Email Hub, APIs, and branded apps by sales. Admin seats are capped (3 on Professional, 5 on Business) and extra ones cost $10 a month each.
Learner Journey's centre is the learning path: what someone has to complete, by when, with which assessment, and what certificate they can show afterwards. The workspace has a timeline, groups and profiles, and events can be members-only, but the community exists to support the learning rather than the other way round. Events are registered, ticketed or invoiced, checked in and certified rather than streamed to a viewer count. There is no built-in live streaming, no workflow builder and no transaction fee.

When Circle is the better choice
The community is the product: members pay to be among each other, and discussions, chat, live rooms and a daily feed are what they open the app for. You want built-in live streaming, a workflow builder, member APIs and, eventually, a branded app. Courses are a feature of the membership rather than the reason for it, and nobody needs to evidence completion.
When Learner Journey is the better choice
The learning is the product and the community supports it. You train staff, teachers, members or clients and need due dates, assessments with pass marks, completion reporting and certificates that verify. Your live sessions are events with registration, tickets or invoices, check-in and attendance certificates. You want an AI tutor that answers learners from your content and an AI course creator that drafts it. You want to start free, pay no transaction fee, and not count admin seats.

Frequently asked questions
- Does Learner Journey have a community?
- Each workspace has a timeline with posts, groups and member profiles, and events can be limited to members. It is a learning community, not Circle's spaces-and-chat product; if daily engagement is the goal, Circle is built for that.
- Can I live-stream?
- Not natively. Online events carry a joining link to your video platform and attendance is recorded at check-in; recordings can be published to the workspace afterwards.
- Can I charge for membership?
- Yes. Learning paths can be sold as subscriptions through your own Stripe account, and events can be free for listed member email domains and paid for everyone else. There is no platform transaction fee.
- What does Learner Journey not do?
- It does not import or play third-party SCORM packages (it exports them), has no xAPI/LRS, offers email/password and Google sign-in only (no SAML or Microsoft SSO yet), supports one ticket price per event, and has no direct CRM or membership-database integration. If any of those is essential, say so on a demo and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
